About David Abelson
David M. Abelson is the founder and managing director of Abelson Partners, LLC. For more than 27 years, he has led successful initiatives that bring together federal, state and local interests to resolve complex public policy challenges. Working at the nexus of public-private partnerships, David focuses on government affairs, strategic planning, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and communications.
Throughout his career, David has worked closely with Congress, Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, state regulators, local officials in multiple states, business leaders, and the press. Working in partnership, David helps bridge national interests and local values to secure wide-ranging, broadly supported decisions. His successes include ensuring the $7 billion cleanup of the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons site prioritized local values; working with the Secretary of the Interior to protect 1.6 million acres of public land; and redesigning stakeholder engagement strategies to ensure communities in Ohio and New Mexico have a voice in environmental cleanup decisions. David also has extensive experience advising and representing non-profit organizations. He co-authored The Politics of Cleanup and authored Oil Shale 2050: Data, Definitions and What You Need to Know About Oil Shale in the West.
Currently, David serves on the Department of Energy Environmental Management Advisory Board, providing expert advice on intergovernmental and stakeholder engagement, environmental stewardship, and project communications.
A graduate of Hamilton College and the University of Colorado, School of Law, David is a marathoner who dabbles in triathlons.
